Gulou Jie (Drum Tower Street) runs off Wenzhuang Road. Wenzhuang Road runs between Qiongzhou Avenue and North Zhongshan Road. It is within walking distance of the Haikou East Bus Station. The Drum tower is easily visible as soon as you enter Gulou Jie from Wenzhuang Road.
It was built during the Ming Dynasty. It was damaged and rebuilt a number of times. The last reconstruction was in 1788. It is on the south tip of’ the ancient city wall.
It is worth spending some time to walk around all the small back streets in this area. There is history here everywhere you look.
